Martin Collins supply footing for Global Champions Tour, New York

Following on from the success at the London Global Champions Tour, the Martin Collins Group have now been awarded the contract to supply the footing for the New York leg of the Global Champions Tour, from 23rd-25thSeptember 2022.

The venue for this, the penultimate leg of the GCT and GCL is being held on Governors Island, a 172-acre island in New York Harbour, within the New York City borough of Manhattan. The island can only be accessed by ferries from Brooklyn and Manhattan so the logistics of constructing a temporary, world class equestrian arena facility are staggering!

The choice of footing for the GCT group is incredibly important and the Fibretrack surface they opt for in London and now New York, has proved over many years, to offer the ultimate stability and performance for the top-level jumping horses taking part.

The 1440 tonnes of footing comprising of silica sand and CLOPF® will be mixed in New Jersey. There will be over 60 truckloads of Fibretrack to be ferried over the Hudson River to Governors Island over a four-day period, with installation starting on the 12th of September. Not just the surface has to be ferried to the venue, but all the plant machinery and the three Martin Collins Arena Masters that will be used to maintain the surface once installed.

As a global company, Martin Collins Group will be using their experienced teams from the USA and UK to build the arenas which include the Main Arena, the warm-up arena, the links between the two and a lunge area.

After the three days of action have ended the whole reverse process starts and removal of the footing then starts.

Reid Sanders, CEO of The Martin Collins Group commented

“We are delighted to be able to work with the Global Champions Tour again and install our world class surface for the world’s best horses. Our experience in installing temporary arena’s is unrivalled, having put some of them in the most challenging places! Our teams are highly skilled, and our surfaces are high performance, so we are looking forward to seeing all the riders again in New York, as their feedback has been great!”
